Treatment of adductor paralysis by hamstring transposition.

چکیده
Isolated loss of power of the adductor muscles of the thigh can occur as a result of poliomyelitis, but it is much more likely to develop as a complication of an over-enthusiastic adductor tenotomy in the spastic. In an attempt to correct the adduction of the thighs with its attendant severe scissor gait, obturator neurectomy is not infrequently supplemented by adductor tenotomy in the groin. The original deformity may be corrected, but in its place in some cases an even more crippling handicap is left. The previously adducted limbs now lie abducted, laterally rotated and flexed, and thus a child previously capable of assisted walking may be unable to walk at all. In two such cases I have transferred the hamstring muscles to restore the power of adduction.

Vocal fold paralysis: improved adductor recovery by vincristine blockade of posterior cricoarytenoid.
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS A new treatment for acute unilateral vocal-fold paralysis (UVFP) was proposed in which a drug is injected into the posterior cricoarytenoid muscle (PCA) shortly after nerve injury, before the degree of natural recovery is known, to prevent antagonistic synkinetic reinnervation. This concept was tested in a series of canine experiments using vincristine as the blocking agen...
متن کاملAssociated factors in recurrent groin and hamstring injuries.
The majority (85%) of groin and hamstring problems begin with an acute episode (Fig. 1) but because of inadequate treatment or faulty technique they become recurrent. Therefore, they are preventable. On the other hand, there are often additional factors which may mimic or obscure the clinical picture in a refractory 15% of cases. The aim of this article is to highlight those extra factors which...
متن کاملRepair of Peroneal Paralysis by Muscle Transposition in Sheep
This study was performed for the treatment of peroneal paralysis, occurred as a result of iatrogenic injection and/or medicine, with tendon transposition in sheep. Thirty six sheep from a flock with peroneal paralysis occurred following intramuscular injection of a commercial medicine used as metabolic activator were hospitalized for 15 days and medical treatment was applied. After failure of t...
متن کاملCASE STUDIES A Standing Complaint: Inability to Sit: An Unusual Presentation of Medial Hamstring Myofascial Pain Syndrome
Background: Hamstring muscle injuries are among the most common lower extremity injuries in athletes. Pain in the posterior thigh and leg weakness are usual presenting symptoms. Less dramatic onset in nonathletes, without pain in the posterior thigh, is more often thought of as an ischial bursitis or as pain from the sacroiliac joint or the gluteal or piriformis muscles. Pain localized over the...
متن کاملIntraoperative neuromuscular monitoring site and residual paralysis.
BACKGROUND Residual paralysis is common after general anesthesia involving administration of neuromuscular blocking drugs (NMBDs). Management of NMBDs and reversal is frequently guided by train-of-four (TOF) monitoring. We hypothesized that monitoring of eye muscles is associated with more frequent residual paralysis than monitoring at the adductor pollicis. METHODS This prospective cohort st...
